The Science of Symmetry Creates the Complete Salon Experience
Cincinnati, Ohio, September 30, 2005
As salon and spa owners scramble to sell more products to existing clients and attract new ones, an innovative technology breakthrough may change the status quo. Fueled by the rise in popularity of the aesthetic makeover, Symonics, Inc. offers a Visàge (vi-sahz’) beauty consultation as the first step in every salon-goers quest for beauty. Rooted in the science of symmetry, a Visàge consultation is a custom computer software program running on a standard desktop PC and sold as an upscale salon service. Visàge reveals why and how an individual’s hair can be styled to balance facial proportion and create a brighter, healthier, more attractive look. Pre-launch field tests have indicated that Visàge is a significant revenue generator and business builder with considerable increases in new client bookings and high rates of retention.
While salons may view Visàge as a revenue generator, clients view it as a singularly unique salon experience. During a Visàge session, a salon analyst and client interact through a series of steps on a computer. Each step presents the science behind the idea, animations showing how the idea works, then an interactive analysis of the idea on a digital photo of the client’s face. Visàge measures, calculates or analyzes aspects of the face that influence the perception of symmetry. Once the implications for balance and color harmony are understood, the stylist creates his or her interpretation of the results keeping in mind the lifestyle preferences of the client. After the final “after” photo is uploaded to the computer, a comprehensive report is compiled with results and photos. The report is printed and presented to the client in an attractive cover. Each client’s results are electronically recorded so, when they return, future needs can be assessed and results repeated.
The Visàge system is the result of a 3-year initiative by Symonics, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Symonics team has over 75 years of collective experience in creative solutions to complicated business problems, and over 20 years in the salon industry. Eric Wolf, President and CFO, has a diverse 20-year career spanning imaging technology and software development at the executive level, and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. The Visàge inspiration was conceived by Vice President and Master Stylist Betty Ann Wasilunas, salon owner and past winner of Salon Magazine’s Salon of Distinction award. Betty Ann has experimented with the concept for over a decade, and test marketed the process on over 200 clients of her Boston salon. Visual designer Michael Lowry has over 10 years of design and interactive usability experience, all of which go into making Visàge a stunning visual experience, simple and self-teaching, and a realistic solution in a client’s quest for beauty.
