Spatial Audio Teleconferencing
Symonics adds virtual spatial audio to teleconferences. To achieve this end, each participant is assigned a position in a virtual conference room and audio is individually calculated for each person. The voices of the speakers can be perceived as coming from different directions.
There are numerous user benefits arising from virtual spatial audio:
- Identification of unknown voices via their position
- Cocktail party effect: Focusing on one speaker becomes possible
- Background noises are less annoying
- Participants can be placed at will
- Side conversations are rendered via repositioning
- Teleconferences are more realistic and less tiring
- No need for stationary and expensive teleconferencing room
The product for adding spatial audio to teleconferences is called Spatial Audio Conferencing Engine. It consists of the software modules spatial audio analysis, mixing telephone channels and 400 hi-fi channels per PC. The Spatial Audio Conferencing Engine optimizes rendering for headphones, stereo or surround loudspeakers and for traditional telephones. Necessary preconditions are the use of VoIP and RTP/SIP protocols. It can be integrated as C/C++ Library or as MGCP/SIP-Gateway.
