Evolution of the Salon Patron

According to the Green Book 20021 surveys of U.S. women, 84% said that they go to a salon –that's 50 million women going about once every two months to one of over 200,000 salons supporting a $50+ billion industry. The survey further suggests that women have always obsessed about their personal appearance, but today's trend is for women and men to feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside, regardless of age and lifestyle.

Evolution of the salon patron presents new opportunities for the salon willing to embrace the challenge of helping both men and women in all age groups pursue their quest for beauty.

60+ Age Group

  • Represent over 45% of the U.S. population
  • Frustrated when a hairstyle that worked well for years no longer does
  • Tend to wear styles out of balance with an aging face
  • Suffer from sagging jowls, thinning hair, lighter skin tone
  • Actively seek advice from stylists while at the same time fear change

45-60 Age Group

  • Represent 18% of the U.S. population
  • Obsessed with looking younger, healthier
  • Tend to reject trendy styles in favor of traditional or classic cuts
  • Suffer from gray hair and thinning hair and changes in skin luster
  • Can afford the luxury of upscale salons and spas, but want solutions from someone they trust

25-44 Age Group

  • Represent over 30% of the U.S. population
  • Obsessed with health and beauty, desire to feel as good on the inside as the outside
  • Tend to spend disposable income on themselves
  • Intrigued by such things as makeovers, individuality and natural ingredients
  • Search out creative beauty regimes and trust technology to solve problems
